Clay County Has New County-Seal Design

Posted

It was a project a couple of years in the making involving community input and a vision by administrative assistant and Title VI coordinator for Clay County, Carol Rettig, that brought a new county seal to life.

“I started working for the Clay County Mayor’s office in 2022. The county and some other departments had some projects coming  up and they were asking about a county seal. We couldn’t find one so I asked Dale Reagan, County Mayor, if I could see what I could come up with,” Retting shared.

She added she had returned back to the county after being away for a little more than two decades. Her first goal was to involve the community to see what they loved about their county.

“The talk of the town at the time was the eagle that everyone sees around the fairgrounds or the one that flies over the beautiful Dale Hollow Lake. Also, at that time there was a big fishing tournament. I wanted to include everything about the county,” Retting said.

She added Clay County has so much to offer from fishing, hunting and agriculture to picturesque mountain scenery.

After developing three designs, she presented them to the Clay County Commission and they finalized a design in May that now serves as the Clay County government county seal.

“I’m so honored to be able to do this for our county,” Retting noted.
